Assembly Elections 2026: The 2026 Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry represent a high-stakes battle for regional dominance, with polling set to take place on April 9 and results expected on May 4. In Assam, 722 candidates are competing for 126 seats in a contest that focuses on the governance record of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma against a rejuvenated Congress campaign led by Gaurav Gogoi. The state remains a primary battlefield for the NDA as they seek to defend their stronghold against the opposition's challenge.
Kerala’s election is characterized by a significant voter turnout potential. The state is witnessing a intense triangular struggle; while it is traditionally a fight between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) under CM Pinarayi Vijayan and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), the BJP-led NDA is also optimistic about making inroads following a steady gain in their vote share.
In the Union Territory of Puducherry, roughly 9.5 lakh voters are assessing 294 candidates across 30 assembly seats. The political landscape here features the ruling NDA, composed of the NR Congress and BJP, facing a robust challenge from the INDIA bloc (Congress-DMK). Adding a layer of complexity to the race is actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which aims to turn the contest into a three-way battle.
Keralam Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U Kelkar on Tuesday said that 1.46 lakh trained polling personnel have been dispatched to polling stations.
